about

In Order to Write is a website designed to discuss the process of writing. Specifically, it is intended to discuss the process of writing fiction. You see, the desire to do something is one element in doing that thing. In this case writing. Therefore, the desire to write is one element in becoming a writer, and improving ones ability to write. However, extend this beyond the desire, and add to the equation the process of writing. The process of writing then adds to the desire to write and the individual trying to write gets better. Finally, add to that the concerted effort of learning to write with the desire and act of writing and the individual who wants to write improves significantly.

As a result of the, desire, process, effort, writing improves; however, there is still more that can be done to improve that thing you desire to do (in my case, writing). When you discuss the process, act, and education of a thing, you actually improve at that thing considerably. This is why many people choose to join and be active parts of writing groups.

By looking at the theory of writing, how other people write, why individuals find success, and how that success comes about, and then, where applicable, mirroring success, the outcome is that you, as the individual, will find success. In the case of In Order to Write, the idea behind the website is to help foster and build success not only for myself, by creating the discussion and presenting different topics I come across by reading about writing, actually writing, and finding stopping blocks when writing, but also fostering a place where others can also create topics, add updates, and discuss the foundation of becoming a successful writing/author.

All of this is to say that In Order to Write does not exist as a shortcut for people to come and think they’ve found the holy grail of writing sites. Instead, you can expect that the first piece of advice or information you will receive, and a core belief, is that it takes hundreds of thousands of words and years to become successful at the whole writing thing. You will, chances are, not sit down and write your first novel the moment you decide you want to write fiction.

Rather, this site, and its content, is the result of a concerted effort to a) share what I have learned from the process of writing fiction; b) share experiences from the frontlines of working as a professional freelance writing; and c) help other people get to a point where they can be confident and sure of their ability to write and (hopefully) publish.

So, without further ado, let’s try and improve those who want to be improved… let’s write.
